The 39 best spa hotels in Sumida (2024)

APA Hotel & Resort Ryogoku Eki Tower is an upscale hotel with modern rooms, a rooftop pool, and international dining options. The location is convenient for accessing transit lines, although it's a few stops away from the Bullet Train and Nareda Airport. The neighborhood offers a variety of restaurants near the Ryogoku Subway station. Additionally, the hotel is situated close to the train station and Sumo arena.

Stay in quarantine, the Japanese government also provides such excellent accommodation and meals. The staff at the hotel are very kind The room is also new, clean and very functional. thank you very much! A TV with a big screen is also the best

We had a queen room on the 25th floor with a great view of the Sumida River, but despite being a larger room it was still pretty small and made my suitcase packing on our final day a little tricky. The bed was comfortable though the pillows were much too hard for me. Some of the days we had the room cleaned, we returned to see that the bedding had not been changed, and the carpets don't appear to be vacuumed either, instead a sticky roller is ran over the floor which works, but not great. The bathroom was pretty small too. If I sat on the toilet my knees would be touching the wall, and the bathtub is typically a tiny Japanese kind. I found myself not using the bedroom bathroom and would instead go to the spa on the basem*nt floor, which was a wonderful experience.Plenty of places to wash, and 2 large baths with 2 single person tubs and 3 lay down massage jet baths for men. I enjoyed waking up and going down to the spa as I knew I would always leave feeling relaxed. We didn't try any of the on site restaurants as the prices seem pretty high compared to other local places which still offer amazing food.Used the laundry room once, washing was easy enough but when it came to drying, even splitting our clothes over 2 machines, some of my clothes were still damp after 1 hour of drying.I'd definitely stay here again though, the on site lawson was great for getting snacks or drinks as we returned to base each night

Small walk from train station, path behind station leads right to the hotel so it was easy to get to with a suitcaseFast check-in service and lots of amenities in the hotel building - convenient store, restaurant, and even bath for guests.View from our room was of the Former Yasuda Garden, and if we looked from the side, we could see Skytree lit up at night. The room was very large (we had 3 beds and so many pillows). The bathroom had a bathtub. Child amenities also provided and came with a cute little dolphin sponge and slippers. We were able to forgo room cleaning during our 3 nights by simply putting a magnet on our door, and the staff just replaced our towels and provided extra toothpaste/amenities.There was a nice lounge room in the hotel too with information about the area for tourists.

It is a correct hotel until everything runs smooth. Their English is poor, barely enough for tourists. Even with translator apps, the staff is incapable to solve the smallest issue. The room is nice, there is space under the bed for luggages. The pool is only between July and September open. The gym is small, even for few people. No tattoo in the gym, pool and sento, they have stickers in the reception.Breakfast or dinner is 2500 yen, restaurant is quite pricey, but with nice view.

Whenever I have to stay in Tokyo, I choose this hotel. I discovered it during my first days in Tokyo and I must say that I was amazed by the whole hotel, as well as by the view it offers. This is an international hotel where check-in is done directly from a kiosk. The room as a whole was very well equipped and extremely comfortable. But the real highlight of this hotel is the amazing view we have from the upper top floors, offering a breathtaking view of Tokyo. There may be better hotels in Tokyo for the same price, but few can offer a sunset view of the Tokyo Towers from nearly 40 stories high.

Family of 4 stayed here for 5 nights. This was our favorite hotel. A little more spacious rooms and a good view. It was a good deal, but you’re outside of central Tokyo, but train station is very close. We loved the on-site bath house. The cost for quality ratio is high. As long as you know what to expect with Japanese hotels and don’t set your expectations super high, you will be presently surprised. They also have nice robes to wear around the hotel. Good amenities and they clean/make your bed daily.

Good quality for price. Location close to ryogoku station and nice amenities like spa. However, no climate control in room: got very hot and had to open door to cool down. Also, breakfast is OK but could be improved a bit. Also, even with elevator split (3 for upper floors, 3 lower floors), it can be a long wait to go up/down. Fitness room/gym also very small for how many floors/guests.Staff very nice and accommodating, and also very clean and alert housekeeping. Overall decent value, but a lot can be improved.

Rooms are smaller than in New York City. The best part is that it's a 5min walk from Ryogoku station and some cafes. There is a convenience store in the hotel which is very useful. The bath was surprisingly comfortable even as a plus size person! The sky pool was open with an incredible view, but even though it was quite warm, it was closed to swimming. The bathroom came with several amenities including hair clips and wash cloths. There is a mini fridge but absolutely no where to store clothes or large luggage. The public spas were very crowded at all times. The lobby was very crowded at all times. The elevators are always about a 10min wait. The bed is firm and the pillows are rock hard. We lucked out with a small window but most rooms don't have one. With the rooms all very small and so many people, it was always loud in the hall and you could hear what everyone was doing in their rooms. The staff was nice but their self check in had a hard time finding our, and several other tourist's reservations. They offered to keep our luggage after we checked out so we could continue to explore Tokyo before leaving the city later in the day. They will also ship your luggage for you but it takes a day. Seemed relatively clean but it was just very hot, cramped, and crowded.

We stayed here during quarantine, so we didn't see anything other than the inside of the room. The view over the city was nice. Room was not large, but well designed. Making space under the bed for suitcases was a clever idea.

We are currently staying at the hotel as of March 30th. Our issue with the room is that it is too hot and there is no way of cooling it down. In late March, the sun is already strong enough to heat up the room throughout the day and the room stays warm in the evening. There is no way to cool the room down. The air-conditioning in the entire hotel is still set to heating mode from the winter and cannot be changed individually. The staff offered us to turn the heating off and instead only have unheated and uncooled air blowing in. However, the air blowing through the air-conditioning gets hot after a while anyway, probably waste heat from the air-conditioning system. The window cannot be opened in any way, they told us it's a technical limitation of the rooms. So the only option is to have the door propped open to cool down the room with the cold air in the hallway. But we obviously cannot sleep with an open door. The staff was trying very hard to find a solution for us but couldn't help us with this in the end, apart from suggesting to have the door open a little bit, which isn't helpful at all.

The hotel has good prices and nice (but very small!) rooms, with a wonderful Tokyo view from the upper floors! The internal shop is super useful but always super crowded. Similarly, the gym is definitely super small for the amount of clients in the hotel, it is always super crowded.

This APA Hotel was very solid! I only wish the air quality was better on our floor (6). Also, be warned, housekeeping does not restock the plastic water bottles provided on the first night of your stay! However, this hotel does feature a sink with drinkable water that tastes fine and is extremely clean! This hotel is also located next to a subway station (3 minute walk) and the Ryogoku train station (5 minute walk). There is plenty to eat in the surrounding areas, and if you are a fan of sumo, the national sumo wrestling stadium is located just five minutes by foot from the hotel! Overall, a very solid experience!

We stayed for 5 nights there, on our first trip to Tokyo. Returning back to this hotel gave us the strength to do more the next day. The included onsen is a huge plus. The rooms are small but very smart. Distance to nearby metro station was 4’ on foot. The on premises 24/7 convenience store was fantastic. Overall, a great stay.

I have never experienced a hotel like this in all my life. The lobby drips with crystal chandeliers and marble. There is a gender-separated spa, a gym, two restaurants, a sky deck with pool (sadly the pool is only open for a short time each year though), a large laundry room, a convenience store and other stuff all within the building itself. There isn't much else to do in the area honestly unless you're into sumo and swords. Even so, it's peaceful and peace is rare in Tokyo. Two train stations nearby (subway and JR). Helpful staff.Room is small although that's expected in Tokyo. Decoration of the room was rather gaudy which wasn't very relaxing but that's nitpicking. Amenities good quality but fresh towels only given if you grant access to the room. They don't give you towels in a bag on the door if you put up the "do not disturb" sign, as used to be standard across Japanese hotels but apparently not anymore.I had to leave the area early at short notice and was then subsequently surprised to hear that this hotel had reached out and offered to refund me for the days I didn't use on my booking. So I was very pleased. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a great experience at a surprisingly affordable price.

This was a clean quiet comfortable hotel. Staff were very friendly. If you're like me and a light sleeper this is the perfect hotel, I didn't hear any noise at all. The bed was really comfortable, I just wasn't a fan of the pillow style. It's an easy walk to two different train stations and there are a lot of food choices in the area. It was about a 20 minute train ride to most tourist locations. You trade location for a nice quiet area with this choice. The rooms were very tiny, we had to be quite strategic with our bag placement as it didn't fit under the bed. There was just enough room to walk between the bed and the vanity. The bathroom was also very tight. I've only stayed in a couple Japanese hotels but this one was quite small in comparison.Overall a great choice for a budget friendly quiet hotel, I would just recommend having small bags for this one.

Great location to subway and JR station and there are couple convenience stores and restaurants around.Hotel lobby is large, self check-in is available, there’s a convenience store at B1, as well as fitness room and spa.The room is clean and tidy, but it’s smaller than expected. And I didn’t know we won’t get the bottle of water refilled even we stayed for two nights. The most important thing is the room is extremely hot. They have heater at the room and I tried turning off the heater, but it still felt very hot, and the air wasn't circulating. The windows couldn't be opened. It was only when I set the heater to 16 degrees Celsius that I felt a faint breeze, but it was impossible to sleep throughout the night.

The hotel has an efficient self check in and check out system but there's staff on hand to help. Staff will look after your luggage if you need.Clean and modern rooms.Lobby is homely and welcoming.More seats on the 2nd floor, by the Lawson's cafe (if you need a place to rest before check in). Nice seating area on the 31st floor but you need your keycard to get in (the swimming pool is closed for this off season period but the lounge chairs afford great views of the city).Overall, great hotel and great location.

Stayed at this hotel for 6 days for the compulsory isolation due to the measures for Covid-19. The bed, room, facilities were OK but the window could not be opened and the glass was frosted so I could see nothing outside. Without natural light for nearly a week after flight from Europe together with the ban of walking out of the room for exercise, it was impossible to recover from jet lag. The bathtub was very small even in Japanese standard. OK for stay for a few days at normal time but rather tough for such very restricted condition. Still give 3 stars for 'normal' use but the corridor was freezing cold and I don't know anything about facilities outside the room.

excellent newer property. right up to Japanese standards. short walk from both JR and metro lines. good selection of restaurants nearby and a couple museums. highly recommend this and other APA properties. bonus, it has a free spa for all guests: as well as a Lawson grocery store in site!

For context, my family is from the US, so I am speaking from that perspective. The rooms are very small but quite functional. There is luggage storage space underneath the beds. The bathroom uses the same faucet for drinking water (it is clean!), hand washing, and showering - all of which are indicated with English labels. The towels, bathrobes, and toiletries are replenished daily. The TV includes information about the crowdedness of the onsens, Wifi info, restaurant info, food delivery, etc. The TV also includes free phone screen mirroring, but will not mirror paid services such as Netflix or HBO. A chromecast works great to fill in this gap. The included onsen is a must try - it‘s something I greatly looked forward to everyday since it is open until 2am daily. There are also on-site massage services (additional fee) that will send someone directly to your room for a massage. Be mindful that use of the rooftop pool is an added fee until 9pm, and afterwards I believe it is free. The on-site 24-hr convenience store is perfect for when you need a hot meal anytime. The laundromat costs ¥500 for one wash cycle, and ¥100 for one dry cycle (30 mins). I haven’t tried the breakfast buffet, but my parents gave it high praise. There is also a rooftop restaurant (which is quite expensive, so I didn’t try it), and an on-site cafe that is great for sitting down for a coffee or setting up a work station. There is a fitness room, but it only includes a few cardio machines, some dumbbells, and a bench. Good for a low maintenance workout. The JR station is a 5 min walk, and subway station is a 3 min walk. It is a bit out of the way from the main Tokyo area, but if you don’t mind spending an extra few mins on the metro, it’s not an issue. This hotel really has everything you could need and more. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an affordable and comfortable stay.

The swimming pool on the 31st floor is very cool, on the plus side there is also a store and lots of other activities inside. There are nice views from some sides of the hotel. The price per night is also a plus. After staying at the hotel, you can leave your luggage in the lobby. The front desk could not find our reservation by name, causing us to have to call the person who was just at the conference to get the reservation number. Much of the staff speaks unintelligible English. It could be a bit cleaner. We had dust in the room and not everything was cleaned perfectly. The rooms are cramped, but I guess that's standard in Japan. There are only 6 elevators on more than 30 floors, which causes several thousand guests moving between floors to wait sometimes 10 minutes each for the elevator. In a hotel of this size there is only one treadmill and two bicycles in the gym, which means there might not be a gym at all.The ice dispenser is only at -1 which means that a trip to get a cup of ice on a Friday afternoon takes 15 minutes.

Good location and two train stations near by. Food is great for family and we loved big bath at basem*nt floor. Family friendly and very helpful staff members.Room is small but enough to open a big check in (28inch) luggage.Only improvement I would ask is fresh scent for welcoming at hotel and room is missing if we compare to other hotels we stayed in USA. Pillow smelled from previous guest was not very happy and relaxing for my sleep and waking up.Overall, this hotel is very unique and wonderful stay for your Tokyo trip

The room was a bit small and you can hear loud hallway traffic from your room. Otherwise, the room was clean and had almost everything I needed for an enjoyable stay.Do plan to check out or go about your day 5-10 minutes earlier than you plan to as the elevators can be quite congested. The staff were absolutely amazing…their friendliness and hospitality ranks above the best of any hotel I’ve been too. The front desk staff spoke English as well which made checking in and out smooth. I’ll never forget the small things they did to make guests feel welcome such as handing out free ice treats in the hotel lobby on a particularly hot day.

Amazing view from the sky view room we had. Looked right over the main city and was gorgeous in the morning sunrise and sunsets. The room was really cosy and a great place to come back to after a long day. The amenities in the hotel were incredibly convenient and the hotel really helped us with our baggage delivery to our next hotel. The nearby subway and jr connections made it really good to get out into Tokyo easily. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in a queen room (high floor) for 15 nights in January, and we were so happy with this hotel. The hotel staff are friendly and many speak English. All of the signage posted in and around the hotel is also bilingual so there were no issues or gaps in communication. The room, while small for western standards, was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Based on other reviews, we were a little worried about the room being too hot, but it was perfect if you leave the heat off. The heater is very efficient, and we only used it while getting ready in the morning. There is no AC option, but we never would have used it anyway during our stay in January. The door to the room leads out to an open-air hallway, so fresh air is always circulating.Housekeeping cleans your room every 3 days unless you request more frequent cleaning. On days when housekeeping doesn't clean your room, there is still a new set of towels and amenities (including paper cups, tea and coffee, body towels for the spa, facial cotton, ear swabs etc.) provided to you on a daily basis. The view from our room was fantastic. And the location of the hotel was perfect - quiet location away from the main districts, but within 5-10 minutes walk to either JR or subway line so you're not too far removed from the action. Many restaurants within walking distance, and a Lawson located directly in the hotel for any late-night/emergency snacks or cravings. We would definitely stay here again!

Amy Freeston — Google review

The rooms are nice but expectedly small. We had a full size queen bed that took up most the space and left us with nowhere to put our luggage. Our room had a fantastic view and the food in the hotel’s restaurant’s was delicious! Good location and close to train services. Our negative point, and hard to get over, the Hotel aircon smelt horrible. Thankfully, it was cold enough to leave off.

Ben Osborne — Google review

really nice place with nice rooms and a good public bath with many different options one with bubbles then one open air too. although even with 6 elevators there is always a need to wait before goin up or down. also has a nice pool at the top floor with a great view

A very good hotel. It has a great location, both being right next to the sumo arena and a nice park, but the best thing about the location is that is a short walk from two major train lines. The onsen (group bath) in the basem*nt and the view from the top were amazing and on the level of an attraction in their own right. There is also a couple of restaurants and a convience store, which was really helpful. Staff was mostly english speakers. The only downsides were that the room was very small (but well laid out) and the elevators were overloaded during peak times. Multiple times I had to wait several times as an elevator passed us both up and down (and there were no stairs).

I am staying at this hotel now and there is not A/C. My room is an oven and the solution that they gave me was to offer me a fan. I am paying over a $100 a day and they can just offer me a fan? Additionally, I asked for a refund so I can move to another hotel and they said that is not possible to offer a refund for the other nights. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL AT ALL. Tomorrow I will go to the customer protection agency in Japan to file a complaint

Love staying at the APA hotels while in Japan! Always a good stay always great amenities and the tv has so many options like checking on laundry or how full the Spa is! And free movies. Also we had an AMAZING view and all for a great price!
